Spring is here!
By Generation Nourished
Spring marks the time for renewal and release. This is also true for the organs in our body primarily the liver and gall bladder. To release build-up and toxins, fuel your body with healthy springtime greens such as asparagus, artichoke, fennel, scallions, peas and spinach and don’t forget to add detoxifying herbs such as coriander and parsley. Lots of water, herbal teas and lighter foods such as raw salads or steamed veggies are also called for at this time of year. Health benefits don’t end only with a cleansed liver, but also include fewer breakouts, improved immunity, better mood and general overall wellbeing.

In search for perfect chocolate that will shave off the guilt?
By Generation Nourished
If you answered yes, then be on the lookout for 70% or more Cacao content because this is the ingredient that real chocolate is made of. Search for brands that have Cacao listed as their first ingredient. Skip it if it contains sugar as the first ingredient or if it contains unhealthy hydrogenated fats. But what good does good chocolate have to offer? Plenty! Not only does it contain minerals like iron and magnesium, but if you get the raw kind, it even has enzymes that further boost mineral and vitamin absorption of your food intake. Consume 100% Cacao solely for nutritional benefits, and remember a little will go a long way. Nomm Nomm!

Do you eat of a lot of salad?
By Generation Nourished
We all know salads are good for you. They are chock full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals. However, if you find yourself feeling cold, shivering a lot, lacking energy or experiencing dry skin more so during the approach into winter, it may be time to shift to slightly warmed food as these could be signs of what your body could be asking for. Back in the day, raw greens were not easily available during winter, frost or snow and were often replaced with food that would store well like roots and tubers. This does not mean salads are off the table however. Greens are nourishing for the body so consider a warm green salad with sweet potatoes or pumpkin and beetroot. Delicious!
